Pittsburgh Steelers receiver Sammie Coates has teamed up with Giant Eagle and the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank to create ‘Scores for Kids’. Throughout the 2016 Steelers season, Sammie is asking Steelers nation to make a pledge of at least $1 for every touchdown the team makes.
All proceeds from ‘Scores for Kids’ will benefit Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank and it’s Produce to People mobile food pantry program.
The Food Bank exists because growing numbers of people in our community struggle with meeting a basic human need – food. Produce to People, the Food Bank’s large-scale direct distribution program, helps meet the need by serving 7,000 households at 17 sites throughout southwestern Pennsylvania each month. Each family receives 30-50 pounds of food, mostly fresh produce.
“We believe that no one should have to go hungry, ever. No one should have to skip meals so their child can eat, to pay for needed prescriptions instead of food or to rely on school meals as their primary source of food,” said Lisa Scales, president and CEO of the Food Bank. “Ending hunger in our community is a bold goal. When Steelers nation works together however, it is attainable. We are so excited to partner with Sammie Coates and his teammates on this initiative to make the 2016 season a winning season not only on the scoreboard, but on the tables of the families we serve as well.
Individuals who make at least a $1 per touchdown commitment or a flat donation of $40 or more will be entered to win a signed helmet, and those that make a pledge of $10 or more or a flat donation of at least $400 will receive a special invitation for two to Sammie Coate’s Champions Reception on Tuesday, November 15.
“I am very excited to partner with Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank to help kids in need. The Food Bank is a great organization that truly makes a difference in the lives of both families and young people, and I am honored to support them and the great work they do, stated Sammie Coates. “This pledge campaign is a great way for fans to join me in this support. Now, every time we get a touchdown, it helps the Steelers and the people in need in our city.”
